Also featured is The Spinning Wheel Project, which advocates cycling, peace and non-violence. Part of Bike To Work Day. A celebration of the iconoclastic bike community of Austin, TX. Step Up and Speak Out: Youth Violence Prevention Forum
This daylong event will bring together students from all over King County to address violence issues that affect them in school, at home and with their friends. It will offer them opportunities for discussion, learning and community involvement, and with the skills learned over the course of the day students will better themselves and add value to their student body. Under the guidance of faculty, some of the students may even choose to implement schools clubs addressing issues of violence or other projects right on their school campus. This offers an exciting opportunity for educators to promote and embrace opportunities for individual growth and service learning. We are hoping that this forum will become an annual event in which over 200 youth will participate in workshops that are designed to encourage discussion, help youth seek out answers, learn ways to live free of violence, and get involved in community organizations to end violence in our homes and in our communities. more...

The author will pay tribute to Fr. William Tadena and all 31 activists killed in the last three months
by suspected elements of the Philippine Military. The human rights situation that saw at least three
civilians killed every week is even worse than the darkest period of Martial Law since it was declared in
the 70’s. As one lawmaker said, “this is not just a simple human rights violation, this is a major crackdown
of the legal left.”
