Public Media Caucus
The Center for Digital Democracy is holding a participatory caucus to outline what public media should be in the United States and how to make it so. All of us are deeply concerned about the preservation of public media space. Unlike efforts in other countries, the U.S. has lacked an open, deliberative process to determine our public media needs and how to effectively meet them. The purpose of the caucus is to actively engage the independent media producing, distribution, activist, and funding community and those institutions that regularly use independent media such as libraries and museums in developing strategies and tactics to ensure a vibrant public media ecology.  more...

Friday Night At The Meaningful Movies: “The Global Brain” and “The White Hole In Time”
TWO FILMS: “THE GLOBAL BRAIN” (30 min, Peter Russell) “The Global Brain” weaves a blend of physics, psychology and philosophy to paint a hopeful new picture of humanity and the times we are passing through. It explores the idea of the Earth as an integrated self-regulated living organism (Gaia), and considers what function the human race may be playing in this system. Using visual collages, an inspiring and optimistic vision of humanity's future unfolds. “THE WHITE HOLE IN TIME” (25 min, Peter Russell) Building on the previous film, “The White Hole In Time” proposes that we stand on the threshold of a major leap in evolution, as significant as the emergence of life itself, and the essence of this leap is inner spiritual development. Moreover, he maintains that it is only through such a shift in consciousness that we will be able to manage successfully the global crises now facing us. Followed by Open Discussion.  more...

Poor, Black and Left to Die: What Hurricane Katrina Shows about American Capitalism
SPEAKER: Philip Locker, followed by an open discussion In the wake of Katrina, a political hurricane is gathering force across America. Millions recognize that the death and destruction that followed Hurricane Katrina was entirely man-made and preventable, the product of a presidency--and a system--that puts the working poor and people of color last; a system that funds wars for oil and tax cuts for the rich while de-funding New Orleans levees and relief operations. Join us for a discussion on building a mass movement to confront Bush and the racist, profit-driven system he represents.  more...
