Guatemalan Rolando López coordinates AJ'CHMOL, and is currently organizing with thousands of mostly Mayan people to protest new open-pit mining on their lands. Worldwide, indigenous & rural people are fighting transnationals' efforts to site these mines in fragile ecosystems. Due to serious health risks & extreme environmental degradation (deforestation of old growth, cyanide leaching into rivers), open-pit mining is now banned in the U.S. Reception to follow talk.
