Friday Night at the Meaningful Movies: Harold Pinter’s Nobel Acceptance Speech: “ART, TRUTH & POLITICS”
Film: "Harold Pinter's Nobel Acceptance Speech: ART, TRUTH & POLITICS" (46 min, Illuminations UK, 2005 Nobel prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter, in his acceptance speech to the Nobel committee, called for Tony Blair to be tried for war crimes, excoriates the US government over Guantánamo Bay and its attempts to destabilize Nicaragua in the 1980s, and defines the invasion of Iraq as a bandit act, an act of blatant state terrorism demonstrating absolute contempt for the concept of international law. Though too frail to attend the ceremonies, this 75 year old author and playwright's eloquence and fury betray his condition in his Nobel Lecture video recording shown at the Swedish Academy in Stockholm. Harold Pinter pulls no punches, and expresses succinctly and passionately much of the world's distaste for the U.S. ruthlessness in its quest for empire. (Event is FREE and open to the public! ..but Donations are kindly accepted).  more...
