full description & details:
"The Leader" is an occasional compilation of short political documentaries projecting large the issues of the day, from the perspective of the movements for social change and justice. This collection, containing twelve short pieces, is a multifaceted statement of the power of activism. In the video segments, demonstrators absorb, point-blank, rubber bullets to stop the shipment of war materials in Olympia; students, part of Seattle's Young People's Project, rail against the WASL; Somalis call for Ethiopia and their US backers to get out of Somalia; genocide survivors in Rwanda wrestle healing a community and moving forward after great horror; and local filmmaker Jill Freidberg talks about her latest film, which examines the role of people's media, particularly radio, in the recent Oaxaca uprising.
PepperSpray Productions is an all-volunteer activist video collective based in Seattle, Washington. The video arm of the Seattle Independent Media Center, it gives voice to the voiceless, going where the silences are in mainstream reporting.
